1965 Robbie Wood Club Champion 65,67

In the early years there wasn’t a better clubman than Robbie. He had been surfing Merewether since 1959, had a happy and infectious personality and was the perfect inaugural Secretary for the Club, with solid back up in the joint Presidency of Ray Richards and John Nute. Many Club meetings were held in Robbie’s room above his parent’s home in Margaret Street with Assistant Secretary/girlfriend (later wife) Judy Cornish taking notes. His surfing spoke for itself. He was the local pioneer of big wave surfing. He won 2 Club Open titles. His surfing went far beyond Merewether. No one else was clapped and cheered on entering the Melvic Theatre, Belmont to watch the latest surf movie.
