All-round talented surfer, drummer, surfboard shaper, now champion lawn bowler. In those early years he was almost unbeatable. In 1964, at 13, he was 3rd in the Club’s first junior contest. He subsequently won 3 consecutive Club Juniors. 3 straight wins in any division would not be matched again until his nephew came along (Nicky Wood late ‘70s/80s). He was instrumental helping Merewether to Newcastle Teams dominance through the late 60’s. Feats included winning both the 1967 Mattara Juniors and Newcastle Juniors. Mattara Senior finalist ’68, ’69 & ’70, winner 1971. Runner up to Wayne Lynch to compete in the 1968 World Championship at Bells. Winner Merewether 1000.
