Talk about surfers keen to travel. Early trips up and down the coast made the Club famous and instantly recognisable. The 2 consecutive bus trips of Easter 1965 & ‘66 were standouts. Can you imagine 30 odd surfers leaving town in a rattly old bus, roof piled high with boards and hitting Port Macquarie for 4 days and 4 nights. Turning up at a beach, locals would look on in disbelief as 30 of us hit the water at once. The town centre, especially the Port Lounge, rocked every night. We slept wherever under and around the bus in our sleeping bags. Greg Gray and “Brains” Sinclair point appropriately at the bus’ sign.
